This was my first major project after joining the agency. The City of Chicago brought me in around Round 7 of creative development, and our team passed the next round after the first review. I served as the lead designer for the Cycle Breakers initiative, spearheaded by the Community Safety Coordination Center (CSCC).
Cycle Breakers aims to foster a safer, healthier Chicago by partnering with local organizations and residents to expand community safety efforts, promote healing, connect youth and adults to resources, and bridge generational gaps.
I developed the logos and designed over 100 asset variations using Spike VTC typography by VocalType, with a focus on thoughtful and intentional design. Each asset fit within one of three categories—youth, caregiver, or community—and was produced in both English and Spanish. The work included custom hand-drawn street signs for each of the 15 launch neighborhoods, along with assets that appeared across buses, billboards, newspapers, social media, web banners, T-shirts, backdrops, and more.
This year-long project involved deep community collaboration, including focus groups, coordination with the Mayor’s Office and the Mayor’s Youth Commission, and multiple rounds of refinement. Cycle Breakers officially launched on July 9, 2024, with an event at the Chicago Cultural Center, in partnership with My Chi My Future, Play Streets, and 211 Metro Chicago.
